You might remember my post from earlier this summer about Adventure Collection’s Photo Contest.  Well, the winner for the month of August was recently announced!

Congratulations to Kathleen Rice of Staten Island, NY, who won the photo contest with her photo (at right) of a cheetah chasing a Thomson’s gazelle in Kenya’s Samburu National Reserve.

Rice’s grand prize is a trip for two on our classic polar bear expedition in Churchill, Manitoba, one of our company’s most popular adventures! When asked about this trip, Rice said, “I’m really excited about the polar bear trip because it’s been on my wish-list! I’ve never been on any Arctic trips and the polar bear expedition is really the pinnacle of Arctic wildlife experiences. I can’t imagine another trip where the opportunities for photography could be better.”

Her photograph was chosen from among more than 100 entries. The competition’s final five candidates were selected by popular vote. The winner from among these five was then chosen by a distinguished panel of travel writers, editors and photographers, including acclaimed photographer Robert Holmes, Conde Nast Traveler consumer news editor Wendy Perrin, Los Angeles Times Travel Editor Catharine Hamm, WorldHum.com co-founder and editor Jim Benning, and the Adventure Collection’s editor in chief, Don George.

“One of the thrills of traveling in Africa is viewing nature at its rawest. Kathleen Rice’s superb shot of a cheetah in pursuit of a Thomson’s gazelle in Samburu National Reserve embodies the exhilaration of encountering wildlife up-close in the bush,” said George. “Her photo robustly captures the pulse-quickening, spine-tingling lessons that adventure travel in Kenya and throughout Africa bestows.
