Kayaking along Greenland's Forbidden Coast

Kayaking along Greenland’s Forbidden Coast

We’ve got some exciting news!

This summer, our CEO Olaf Malver returned from the high territories of Greenland where he heard enthusiastic stories from Inuits and adventurers alike about a spectacular and remote place called the Kangerdlussuaq Fjord, 500 kilometers northeast of Tassilaq. These reports were all at once distressing, surprising, and exciting, because due to global warming, it is now possible to venture through lighter ice pack and reach this breathtaking fjord. Icebergs and strong currents have historically been infamous for making this area incredibly dangerous, but it can now be explored safely.

So in the summer of 2010, we will be the first commercial group to sail from Iceland and go kayaking into the staggering Kangerdlussuaq area! This is a “first-ever” exploratory trip with Olaf, and only a select few will be selected to join him. So call today at 510-559-8099 for more information.

Some of the things you’ll be able to see on this expedition include Inuit ruins, vast mountain ranges, hanging glaciers, roaming polar bears, and valleys filled with flowers. The Kangerdlussuaq Fjord is by far the wildest coastal landscape in Greenland, and this adventure is a perfect opportunity to put your expeditionary spirit to good use!

    Hey Olaf,
just stumbled over your new offer. 500 km north of Tassilaq sounds absolutely fascinating – would add to our two years back experience around Cape Ticho Brahe! Please come back with more information.

I’d absolutely love to do this trip, but I’m pretty sure it’s beyond my physical tolerance. At 70 my arms are strong, but my legs tire easily. So-o-o-o, if there’s going to be a boat/ship-supported trip to the East Coast, please put me down right away for it! Sue Bottigheimer

Ken – that book sounds really interesting! I’m adding it to my reading list. 🙂

I’m particularly interested in this trip because of the book The Sledge Patrol by David Howarth. The book tells how a handful of Danes and Norwegians on dog sleds patrolled this area of the Greenland coast to keep watch for Nazi invaders during WWII. The story of their encounter with the Germans rivals those of other Arctic explorers.

Trips with Olaf to Greenland have been my favorite experiences ever (and also the crossing of the Van Damen Peninsula, of course). Please include me in any updates.

You have caught my interest in “Greenland’s Fobidden Coast”.
Some detailed information please; cost, departure date, returning date & limits of time on the water.
I have been paddling for 20 years.
Many multiple days solo & group adventures in sea kayaks.
Play a bit with lower level white water.
Would love to visit Greenland & never before seen places excite my interests.
    Phil
