Our world is composed of a vast variety of biomes and habitats. The Emmy award-winning series “Planet Earth,” produced nearly a decade ago, gave us a high-definition look at some of them.

Almost a decade ago, the world fell in love with the documentary series Planet Earth. Produced by the BBC, the project employed 71 cameramen spending more than 2,000 days in the field, filming in 204 locations across 62 countries. It took four years to complete the production and was the most expensive nature documentary series ever commissioned by the BBC—and also the first to be filmed in high definition. The series began its run on American television on the Discovery Channel on March 25, 2007. Nothing yet has eclipsed it for painting an ultimate portrait of the earth.

The series comprises 11, 50-minute episodes, each featuring a different biome or habitat, such as caves, deserts, forests, mountains, oceans, plains or the polar regions. The BBC footage below presents some of the most beautiful, startling and touching wildlife moments that occur daily on this planet we call home.

Next year, we’ll be coming up on the 10th anniversary of Planet Earth. Yet its scenes still have the power to move our souls. Watch this two-minute video. It’s another reminder of how beautiful this world can be.

Here’s to finding your true places and natural habitats,
