Today is World Wildlife Day 2018, and this year’s international conservation event will be celebrated with the theme, “Big cats: predators under threat.”

Although big cats are adored across the planet, these majestic predators face many threats to their continued survival in the wild, including poaching, habitat loss, human-wildlife conflicts, and illegal wildlife trade.

The big cats being highlighted for World Wildlife Day this year include lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, snow leopards, pumas, and clouded leopards. These charismatic cat species can be found throughout the wild areas of Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
