Rock Balancer

Talk about the delicate balance of nature!

Sculptor Michael Grab creates his works of art by finding that perfect point of equilibrium between two rocks. Hyperaware of the smallest nooks and indentations on a stone’s surface — which he uses to make “tripods” for the rocks to stand on — Grab creates his unusual pieces without using glue or tricks. The artist says that by paying close attention, he’s able to feel even the smallest clicks as the notches of the rocks come in contact with one another.

Others say that Grab has the kind of mind and hands that can somehow get inside these stones, which allows him to “become the balance.”

However he does it, his balancing act is a natural wonder.

In this fast pace world it is wonderful to see someone create an amazing piece that seems to make time stand still for a brief interlude with nature.
Thank you for sharing this piece!

I think I’ve seen him in action with my own eyes. I don’t know how he does it, amazing.

Beautiful, meditative and a great analogy for the beauty of finding balance. How do you find balance in your lives?

    Nice video/story!
I’m always fascinated when I spot balance rock sculptures along a beach…and wrote a story last year about the art of rock balancing and some balanced art sculptures at Mission Point in Michigan.
