A guy in a bad bear suit may not be the best spokesperson for an audience of serious nature enthusiasts, but this video that uses one does, in the end, ask an important question for all of us to consider.
In Florida, the black bear is a threatened species, with only 2,500 to 3,000 individuals remaining in eight isolated pockets throughout the state. In order to survive, bears require large, connected landscapes and corridors to travel through. The adult male Florida black bear may roam as many as 120 square miles of forest in search of seasonal food and a mate. The Nature Conservancy is working to purchase and permanently protect a piece of land, Hollywood Pines, that is crucial for assuring these black bears’ ability to live and move about.
Watch as this “black bear” tries to navigate through a habitat we’ve created and the obstacles we’ve put in front of him—just don’t look too closely at his “business attire.” You might see a zipper.
